How Do You Spin Articles?

Is article spinning basically rewriting? What all does it entail? I have seen free article spinners on the web, and I was wondering when you copy and paste your article, does the wordage increase? I have written an article with 500+ plus, and I am not quite finished, as I need to get to 1,800 words. Will it add some words for me based on what I have already written?
